Prison Reform Program

Marginalized groups such as SC, ST and Minorities constitute ~67% of undertrial population in 1,300 prisons of India. They are disproportionately over-represented in the undertrial population relative to their demographic proportions in the Indian population. They face profound socio-economic disparities in accessing justice. Many undertrial prisoners from marginalized communities are unable to access legal services due to limited financial resources, inadequate legal representation, and a lack of awareness of legal rights. This often leads to prolonged incarceration far exceeding sentencing limits; it infringes upon their fundamental rights.
